Louis Vuitton X Murakami

Louis Vuitton is once again working with Takashi Murakami, whose designs are still instantly recognisable.

What goes around comes around. After two decades, the LVMH star is once again turning to the Japanese maestro because of his pull. The 63 year old designer was born and raised in Tokyo and he's always been a fan of Japanese cartoons and comics. Although he wanted to become an animator himself, he majored in Japanese painting that incorporates traditional artistic conventions, techniques and subjects but later, after his PhD, he became disillusioned and diverted to social criticism and satire (one of his most expensive pieces, selling for over $15 million at Sotheby's New York in 2008, showed a naked cartoon character with blonde spiky hair).  Murakami-san has developed his own pop icon, Mr. D.O.B., which has evolved into a form of self-portraiture.
