Blue Monster Luxury
Overlook a blue monster. That’s THE Blue Monster. Signature of five 18-hole courses at Trump National Doral Miami. Par 72, length 7,590 yards, slope 146, rating 77.4, original designer Dick Wilson. Signature hole, the 18th, with its trademark fountain; is named by GOLF Magazine as one of the top 100 holes in the world.
Stay at Trump Doral, 15 minutes west of Miami airport, and do as Donald T did before he once again won the Presidency (he’s too busy these days). He likes a room in the Arnold Palmer Villa, overlooking that famous 18th hole itself. It's also very handy for the newly opened Trump Golf Academy, opened the first of January.
Doral is fast putting the word ‘luxury’ into golf. What do we mean by luxury in golf? There are 300 buggies, so no worry about how long it's going to take you to get there. There’s a hotel ballroom big enough for your entire company to meet here and throw a bit of golf in on top of that. Add bedrooms with memorable day-glo ceiling showers. BLT steaks the way you like’em (kosher’s no problem). Staff know your penchants. Yes, your Wall Street Journal’s right here.
Aficionados like it all so much many will relocate to Doral once its onsite residences, above best-boutique retail, are ready. All the better to be close to the significant Doral Spa and the adjacent Pritikin Wellness Retreat. And for serious bird-watching around the whole 800-acre estate. It’s all thanks to one Alfred Kaskel, a New Yorker who in 1962 wasn’t allowed to play golf there because of his religion. He moved to Miami, bought the land, created this complex and called it after his wife Doris, D-O-R, and added his own A-L.
